Healthcare Providers Forum in Miami '08
Miami was a great opportunity to share stories and practices with HDI forum members from all
industries. At the Networking Reception, superb food, drinks, and company were complimented by a fabulous view of the evening sky behind the sailboats on the bay. While we enjoyed the dinners (and for some - the nightlife) of Bay Side and South Beach the following two nights, it was not all play while in Miami.
The Healthcare Providers Forum (HPF) met for three days of interactive and educational gathering. From chipping away at defining performance metrics on which the group is now benchmarking, to learning first hand from case studies and clinical physicians, I think each member walked away with an even better knowledge of their customers and their industry.
As usual, I enjoyed observing the dialog among the HPF members and witnessing the light bulbs going off and notes being exchanged as they share knowledge, tools, processes and practices. This group really gets to the core benefits of the forum meetings. In addition to learning about their selected topics from the speakers, they absolutely take advantage of the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences with each other.
Along with the HDI Forums’ Program and Logistics Manager, Leslie Cook, the HPF members continue to develop rich agendas packed with opportunities to share, learn, and enjoy. The October 2008 meeting in October was no exception. Kudos to Leslie and the HPF members for yet another successful forum meeting!
HPF members – are you out there? I want to hear from you! Blog about what you enjoyed most from the Miami forum meeting (especially if your answer is “the facilitator”). Insert your comments below. I can’t wait to read what you have to say!

I liked the fact we were associated with the Service Management conference. This gave us a chance to attend a session of our interest while also getting a chance to attend the keynote speakers which were all quite good. This kind of format would be very beneficial going forward. Also - our facilitator was just plain SUPER ;-) (as usual)

I thought bringing in the physicians to hear from their side of the table was very beneficial. It was great to get some unfiltered answers to our questions/concerns in regard to their needs.
Maybe nurses in the future?

I agree with Randy as I enjoyed the opportunity to attend the Keynote sessions as well especially since I have not attended a regular conference in a while. The session facilitated by Joel was excellent (as always) and every time I leave his sessions I have a take away that I can apply to a process. For example - after the Charleston forum I obtained the Mine Mapping software he shared with us and been hooked on it ever since. I know it is not for everyone, however it has improved my efficiency in documenting and retaining information tremdously. Getting an overview of some of our peers organizations was also very educational and well received. It is nice to get a fuller understanding of some of the initiatives others are doing. And finally just the simple networking that occurs is the greatest return on investment - especially as we can all learn from each other and everyone is so willing to share...

I like having the physicians there. I have been able to come back and talk openly to our physician liaison and we are agreeing on items. I also loved the fact that we agreed on benchmarks. I was also able to bring that back and am now working on a department re-org that those metrics will support. Thanks everyone!!
